Introduction:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Business Development Director to join our team in Tokyo. This role is pivotal in expanding our network of investors in Japan, leveraging existing relationships and building new ones to drive long-term growth in a competitive market.


 About the Role:

The Business Development Director will collaborate closely with the Business Development team and senior management to develop and implement strategies aimed at increasing asset inflows. This position requires a strong understanding of financial markets and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders.


Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Business Development team and senior management to strategize sales efforts in Japan, focusing on asset growth and sustainable expansion.
  • Research, identify, and cultivate new investor networks while leveraging existing relationships.
  • Oversee the entire sales process from qualification to closing.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the firm’s offerings to confidently discuss them with clients and prospects.
  • Present investment opportunities and strategies to clients, prospects, and intermediaries with confidence and clarity.
  • Build rapport and work effectively with fund and investment management teams.
  • Provide constructive feedback to improve the sales process and enhance efficiency within the business development function.
  • Contribute to the creation of high-quality sales and marketing materials.
  • Travel regularly to foster and maintain relationships with clients and investors.
  • Conduct operational and financial reviews of the regional business as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to governance frameworks and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain the Client Relationship Management (CRM) database.
  • Arrange meetings and provide interpretation services for senior members and portfolio managers visiting Japan from abroad.


Requirements:

  • Strong academic background with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
  • 5-10+ years of relevant experience in asset management, with a focus on client-facing roles and financial markets.
  • Native proficiency in Japanese and fluency in English.
  • Results-driven and entrepreneurial mindset; capable of multitasking and performing well under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Familiarity with financial markets and investment funds, gained through education and practical experience.
  • Professional qualifications such as CFA, CMA, or equivalent knowledge of securities and investments.
