About the Role
The Compliance Manager will be responsible for leading and strengthening the compliance framework across Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines. Reporting to the Regional Head of Compliance, this role combines oversight, advisory, and execution responsibilities.
You will act as a key partner to local and regional leadership, ensuring that regulatory requirements, internal policies, and ethical standards are consistently met. The position also plays a critical role in driving compliance initiatives, enhancing control frameworks, and supporting business activities through practical and commercially aware guidance.
Responsibilities
Compliance Oversight & Control
- Identify and assess compliance risks at country level and implement appropriate mitigation measures
- Design, implement, and continuously improve control frameworks and monitoring systems
- Conduct compliance reviews (Level 1 and Level 2 controls) and ensure timely remediation of findings
- Track and ensure implementation of audit recommendations
Program Implementation
- Roll out and maintain a regional compliance program across multiple jurisdictions
- Ensure alignment between global policies and local regulatory requirements
- Support business units in implementing compliance standards and adapting to stricter local regulations where applicable
- Contribute to the annual compliance plan and strategic initiatives
Advisory & Regulatory Engagement
- Provide guidance to management on regulatory, legal, and financial crime topics (e.g., AML, fraud, corruption)
- Support new business initiatives, products, and distribution channels from a compliance perspective
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory developments and industry best practices
- Liaise with regulators, industry bodies, and external advisors where required
Training & Culture
- Promote a strong culture of compliance across all markets
- Deliver and localize compliance training programs and communication initiatives
- Coach and support local compliance stakeholders to enhance capability and awareness
Reporting & Governance
- Report compliance breaches and program status to regional and local leadership
- Prepare reports for internal stakeholders and regulatory authorities
- Present findings, risk assessments, and action plans to senior management
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in law, finance, business, or a related field
- Minimum 10 years of experience in compliance, legal, or audit functions within financial services
- Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks and compliance practices (experience in financial crime, data protection, or fraud is highly desirable)
- Proven experience in managing compliance programs across multiple jurisdictions
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
- Ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders and regulators
- Experience in multinational and multicultural environments
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to drive initiatives independently
- Willingness to travel within the region as needed
- Native or fluent Japanese (mandatory)
- Business-level English (mandatory)
