We are managing a confidential search for a Country Manager to lead the Japan division of a profitable, international company. This firm provides specialized B2B services and technology to the automotive industry. After a successful market entry, the business is now ready to rapidly scale its operations across Japan.


About the Role


As the Country Manager, you will be the primary leader for the Japan business. You will work closely with the Global Partners to turn a successful smaller office into a large-scale national operation.

This is a "builder" role. You will spend your time securing major new business deals while also growing the local team.

It is a perfect opportunity for a commercial leader who enjoys both high-level strategy and hands-on execution.


Responsibilities


Commercial Leadership


  • Lead all sales and business development efforts to win large contracts with major automotive players.
  • Drive the commercial strategy to make sure the company stays ahead of its competitors.
  • Partner with global leadership to align Japan’s goals with the company's international vision.


Team Building & Growth


  • Manage a rapid hiring plan, growing the Japan team significantly over the next 12 months.
  • Foster a positive, professional culture for a diverse team of local and international staff.
  • Architect new internal processes to keep the business organized as it grows.


Executive Management


  • Act as the "trusted advisor" for the Japan market, reporting directly to the global headquarters.
  • Oversee the local budget and business performance to ensure long-term success.


Requirements


  • Language & Background: You must be a Japanese national with native Japanese skills and business-level English.
  • Commercial Experience: A strong track record in B2B sales or commercial leadership (such as a Sales Director or Commercial Director ready to move into a General Manager role).
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience in the automotive sector (OEMs, suppliers, or dealerships) is highly preferred.
  • Global Mindset: Experience working within a foreign-capital company in Japan.
  • Leadership Style: A "can-do" attitude with the ability to build a business from the ground up.
