Introduction

A leading international financial services firm is seeking a Vice President–level finance professional to oversee and manage the full spectrum of accounting, tax, and financial control activities for its Japan operations. This role offers the opportunity to act as the senior finance lead locally while working closely with regional and global stakeholders in a dynamic, cross-border environment.

 About the Role

Reporting directly to the Group Head of Finance, this position holds overall responsibility for the finance function in Japan. The role serves as a key business partner to senior management locally and as a critical liaison with regional headquarters finance teams. The successful candidate will play a central role in ensuring robust financial governance, compliance, and reporting, while also contributing to finance-related projects and initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Act as a trusted finance partner to the Japan office CEO and business leadership team
• Coordinate closely with regional headquarters finance teams to ensure alignment and consistency
• Take full ownership of the Japan finance function, including:
• Financial and management reporting
• Maintenance and review of accurate accounting records
• Budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
• Audit management and tax compliance
• Regulatory and statutory reporting
• Cash flow monitoring and management
• Implementation and maintenance of appropriate financial and risk controls
• Lead and support finance-related projects and process improvements within Japan
• Manage relationships with external stakeholders such as auditors, tax advisors, and regulators

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or above in accounting, finance, or a related discipline
• Strong accounting and finance experience within multinational organizations
• Solid knowledge of international accounting standards and Japanese accounting principles
• Good understanding of Japan regulatory and statutory reporting requirements
• Hands-on experience with enterprise accounting systems and strong proficiency in standard office applications
• Excellent communication skills, including interaction with external counterparties
• Strong written and spoken English and Japanese; additional Asian language skills are highly preferred
• Self-motivated, flexible, and able to work independently in a multicultural, cross-border environment
