HR Manager, Senior HRBP

Our client, a global consumer brand, is seeking an experienced HR Manager to join its dynamic Japan organization in Tokyo. This role will be pivotal in shaping people strategy, supporting a high-performance culture, and partnering with business leaders to drive organizational success. Reporting directly to the Head of HR, the HR Manager will play an essential role in strengthening HR operations while preparing to step into a future senior leadership position.


About the Role

The HR Manager will lead the delivery of day-to-day HR operations and strategic initiatives aligned with both regional and global HR frameworks. This individual will support approximately 100 employees and collaborate closely with APAC HR counterparts to ensure consistency in people practices, talent development, and employee engagement.

While there are no direct reports initially, the role will have strong influence and visibility across the business, serving as a trusted advisor to management and a key contributor to HR transformation projects.


Responsibilities

Business Partnering

  • Partner with leaders to define and execute people priorities that enhance team performance and engagement.
  • Coach and empower managers across the HR Value Chain — from recruitment to development, reward, and growth.
  • Provide data-driven insights to guide people decisions and foster a high-performance environment.
  • Lead or support the execution of both global and local HR initiatives and tools.


Talent Management & Development

  • Implement global talent programs and succession planning frameworks.
  • Champion strengths-based learning and performance management philosophies.
  • Support the delivery of training and development programs for managers and employees.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Ensure local implementation of the company’s compensation and benefits strategy.
  • Support annual salary reviews, planning, and benchmarking to maintain market competitiveness.
  • Advise and educate managers on compensation frameworks and decision-making tools.


Recruitment & Employee Relations

  • Drive a best-in-class recruitment experience for candidates and hiring managers.
  • Train managers on interviewing, selection, and onboarding practices.
  • Advise on employee relations matters to ensure fair and compliant resolutions.


HR Systems, Data & Analytics

  • Maintain data integrity across HR systems and tools (e.g., SAP HR, Smart Recruiters, Anaplan).
  • Leverage analytics and KPIs to support workforce and cost planning.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy and employment legislation.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in HR generalist or business partner roles within a global or matrix organization.
  • Proven ability to deliver HR strategies and initiatives that enhance business performance.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and facilitation skills.
  • Hands-on experience with HRIS platforms and HR data analytics.
  • Fluent in Japanese and business-level English.
