Introduction:
We are partnering with a leading global asset management organization to hire an Institutional Sales & RFP Manager to join its Pension Sales team in Tokyo. This is a dual-function role that combines client relationship management with high-quality proposal (RFP/RFI/DDQ) development, supporting institutional business growth in the Japanese market.
About the role:
The Institutional Sales & RFP Manager will work closely with institutional sales professionals and proposal specialists to support engagement with consultants, defined contribution (DC) plan administrators, and institutional clients. The role acts as a key connector between client-facing teams and internal stakeholders, ensuring seamless execution of both relationship management and proposal delivery activities.
Responsibilities:
Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain relationships with consulting firms and DC plan administrators
- Coordinate client meetings, questionnaires, reporting requirements, and ongoing communication
- Manage administrative tasks including scheduling, deadline tracking, contact database maintenance, and market data organization
- Monitor client needs, market trends, and satisfaction levels to identify business development opportunities
- Support senior sales teams in long-term relationship development initiatives
RFP / RFI / DDQ Management
- Prepare and submit high-quality RFPs, RFIs, and DDQs across institutional and wholesale channels
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across investment, product, compliance, client service, and global teams to gather accurate information
- Ensure timely delivery of responses while maintaining consistency and quality standards
- Maintain and enhance proposal content libraries and databases
- Contribute to process improvements and efficiency initiatives within the RFP function
Team Contribution
- Work collaboratively with broader institutional sales teams to support business growth objectives in Japan
Requirements:
- 3–5+ years of experience in pension or institutional sales within asset management (DC experience preferred)
- 3–5 years of experience in RFP/RFI/DDQ preparation within asset management strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of investment management products and markets
- CFA/CMA qualification or relevant client-facing experience highly desirable
- Native-level Japanese and business-level English communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and structured working style
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work across sales, investment, product, and global teams
