Our client is seeking an experienced M&A Broker/Advisor (Director / Associate Director) to join its Financial and Executive Risks practice in Asia, with a primary focus on Japan. This is a senior leadership opportunity for a commercially driven professional with deep expertise in M&A and transactional risk insurance, capable of building and scaling a high-performing M&A insurance advisory platform across the region and in collaboration with international teams.

About the Role
This role carries responsibility for growing and strengthening the M&A insurance business across Asia, while working closely with international colleagues on cross-border transactions. The individual will be accountable for delivering revenue targets in a compliant and ethical manner, while providing both financial and operational oversight in line with group standards.
The position requires a strong leader who can:
- Build and execute the regional M&A strategy.
- Convert M&A opportunities into insurance placements across financial and specialty lines.
- Develop and manage key relationships with clients, insurers, and internal stakeholders.
- Provide direction, mentorship, and capability development within the team.

Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
- Define and execute the medium- and long-term strategy for the M&A insurance proposition in Asia.
- Facilitate collaboration across regional and international teams to ensure a clearly articulated and prioritized growth agenda.
- Drive innovation and support broader financial lines initiatives.
Execution & Placement
- Lead the execution of M&A-related insurance placements, ensuring advice and delivery are of the highest professional standard.
- Structure and place bespoke transactional risk insurance solutions within tight transaction timelines.
- Optimize revenue from new and existing clients by leveraging the full range of available markets and placement channels.
Business Development & Cross-Selling
- Identify, manage, and convert M&A opportunities, including those arising from other lines of business.
- Build strong relationships with corporate clients, private equity sponsors, and other transaction stakeholders.
- Collaborate with local, regional, and international producers to originate and close new business.
- Support cross-selling initiatives to enhance overall client service.
Client & Insurer Relationship Management
- Develop a deep understanding of clients’ business models, transaction strategies, and insurance requirements.
- Identify key budget holders and decision-makers and build trusted advisor relationships.
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with underwriters and insurers across Japan, London, and other international markets.
Leadership & Team Development
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to team members, fostering a high-performance and ethical culture.
- Identify skills gaps and ensure appropriate training and development initiatives are implemented.
- Promote inclusive and collaborative working practices across functions and geographies.
Governance & Reporting
- Ensure all activities are conducted in line with regulatory requirements and internal compliance standards.
- Lead the preparation of periodic updates, management reports, and performance analysis for regional and global leadership.
- Maintain required licenses, permissions, and technical qualifications under applicable local legislation.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
- Relevant regulatory licenses and technical qualifications as required under local legislation.
Experience
- Proven experience advising on mergers and acquisitions, ideally within transactional risk insurance or a related advisory environment.
- Strong track record in business development, including identifying, originating, and converting opportunities.
- Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects within tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within team-based, cross-border environments.
