Our client is a global asset management firm with a well-established investment platform in Japan. They are currently seeking a Manager, Investment to join their Investment team. This role is designed to strengthen the team’s portfolio management capabilities and support the gradual transition of responsibilities toward independent fund ownership over time.

 About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Investment, this position plays a key supporting role within the investment team, contributing to portfolio management, cash management, investment monitoring, and analytical reporting.

The role offers strong exposure to both local and global investment strategies and is intended as a development path toward becoming a portfolio manager. Over time, the successful candidate is expected to take ownership of assigned funds and play a more active role in both investment decision support and client-facing activities.

• Manage cash positions within mutual fund portfolios to support daily subscriptions, redemptions, distributions, and fee payments
• Prepare Japanese-language commentary on market conditions, portfolio activity, and outlook for monthly and semi-annual reports
• Draft Japanese investment-related responses for RFPs based on English inputs and global market views
• Compile and analyze portfolio data using investment systems and analytical tools
• Enhance portfolio monitoring processes by leveraging data tools and emerging technologies, including AI-enabled solutions where applicable
• Communicate with investment managers to understand investment strategies, portfolio updates, and performance drivers
• Support preparation of materials for Local Investment Committee meetings and assist in drafting minutes
• Participate in due diligence processes for external investment managers, including sub-advisors and offshore strategies
• Collaborate with senior portfolio managers to support ongoing investment monitoring and analysis
• Progressively take on ownership of assigned funds, including portfolio oversight and investment support responsibilities

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field; CFA or equivalent qualification is preferred
• Experience in mutual fund cash management
• Strong understanding of both Japanese and global equity and fixed income markets
• Experience in writing investment commentary in Japanese based on English inputs
• Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset
• Familiarity with investment systems and tools (e.g., portfolio analytics platforms, data systems, market terminals), with a willingness to deepen technical expertise
• Strong communication skills in Japanese; English reading and written communication ability required for collaboration with global teams
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal and international stakeholders
• Detail-oriented, with strong organizational and execution skills
• Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and develop within a portfolio management track
• Alignment with organizational values and a team-oriented mindset

• 5+ years of experience in portfolio monitoring or related investment roles
• Strong verbal English communication skills
• Experience interacting with global investment teams
