About the Role
In this role, you will serve as a strategic partner to specific business units, acting as a bridge between leadership and the broader People & Culture function. Reporting to the HR Director, you will work within a sophisticated matrix environment to strengthen organizational capabilities and drive the talent agenda for a workforce committed to scientific innovation.
The position offers a unique balance of high-level organizational design and hands-on execution. You will be expected to act as a trusted advisor to People Managers, providing the insights and influence necessary to manage change, develop leadership pipelines, and maintain a high-performance culture.
Responsibilities
Strategic Talent & Performance Management
- Partner with business leaders to deliver value in organizational design, succession planning, and workforce optimization.
- Lead talent review processes and drive initiatives for manager development to ensure a robust internal leadership pipeline.
- Manage complex performance management cases, providing coaching to managers on addressing underperformance and fostering employee growth.
Advisory & Compliance
- Provide expert guidance on Japanese labor laws and internal compliance to mitigate risk and ensure fair employment practices.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for HR-related inquiries, translating complex HR systems and procedures into actionable advice for line management.
- Ensure all HR activities align with both local regulatory requirements and global corporate standards.
Operational Excellence & Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with Centers of Excellence (CoE) and HR specialist departments to implement local and global HR initiatives.
- Utilize HRIS platforms and data analytics to provide senior management with actionable reports and insights that inform business decisions.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying gaps in current HR processes and proposing scalable, proactive solutions.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of professional experience as an HR Generalist, Specialist, or HRBP, preferably within a global or matrixed corporate environment.
- Legal Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of Japanese labor laws and local HR regulations.
- Communication: Exceptional influencing, presentation, and facilitation skills; ability to build trust with diverse stakeholders.
- Language: Fluency in Japanese is essential; business-level English proficiency is highly preferred for global collaboration.
- Core Competencies: Strong problem-solving skills, high ethical standards regarding confidentiality, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience navigating HRIS platforms.
