Our client is seeking an experienced Compensation & Benefits Manager to oversee total rewards strategy and execution for the Japan market. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who excels in designing competitive reward programs, partnering with senior leaders, and driving initiatives that elevate talent attraction, retention, and performance. The position reports to the Regional C&B Director and plays a significant part in shaping the broader APAC rewards framework.
About the Role
The Compensation & Benefits Manager will be responsible for developing and managing comprehensive total rewards programs tailored to the Japan market. By collaborating closely with HR and business leaders, this individual will ensure alignment with corporate strategies, local regulations, and market best practices. The role also contributes to regional initiatives, bringing valuable insights and leadership to cross-country C&B projects.
Responsibilities
- Manage compensation and benefits programs for the Japan market, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct periodic reviews, analyses, and budgeting processes to optimize compensation and benefits structures.
- Partner with HR teams and business leaders to assess risks, identify improvement areas, and implement enhancements in reward programs.
- Provide end-to-end support for employee benefits programs, including retirement plans, medical coverage, life and accident insurance, and travel insurance.
- Participate in market surveys and benchmarking activities to drive continuous improvement and maintain competitiveness.
- Advise HR teams on remuneration packages for leadership roles, high-compensation hires, and international mobility cases, including tax and social security considerations.
- Support international mobility programs by designing packages aligned with corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to HR and business leaders on total rewards topics.
- Lead and contribute to regional C&B projects aimed at strengthening processes, policies, and frameworks.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in compensation, benefits, and international mobility management.
- Strong understanding of C&B principles, best practices, and regulatory environments.
- Data-driven mindset with strong analytical and storytelling capabilities.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office, Excel, HRIS, and/or data analytics tools.
- Ability to work independently with strong ownership and accountability.
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills and the agility to operate in a complex, cross-functional environment.
- Experience working in multinational organizations or HR consulting firms.
- Proven track record leading regional projects or transformation initiatives.
- Experience designing or implementing sales incentive schemes.
- Fluency in both Japanese and English.
