Director, Corporate Development - Asia

Introduction

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated professional to join a leading global insurance and reinsurance platform in Asia. The organization provides reinsurance and capital solutions for life insurance companies, helping clients enhance capital efficiency and optimize balance sheets. This role offers exposure to complex, cross-border transactions and the opportunity to influence strategic growth in the APAC region.

About the Role

The Director, Corporate Development – Asia, is responsible for originating and structuring reinsurance and funding agreement solutions across Asia, including structured note solutions where applicable. The role involves leading execution on selected transactions and working closely with cross-functional teams—including investments, legal, finance, actuarial, risk, and operations—across geographies. You will also contribute to product development initiatives and market strategy for the APAC platform.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with APAC business development colleagues and clients across Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and South Korea to identify client needs, originate new product ideas, and develop client-ready materials and thought leadership.
  • Lead early-stage pricing, structuring, and feasibility analysis for reinsurance and funding agreement opportunities, proactively coordinating stakeholders across actuarial, investments/ALM, legal, tax, finance, risk, and operations to assess viability, key trade-offs, and optimal structures that balance capital, accounting, and risk considerations.
  • Lead end-to-end execution of selected transactions, including negotiation, documentation, closing, onboarding/operationalization, and handoff to in-force management teams for post-close monitoring and rate-setting, as applicable.
  • Support VP/SVP in managing the deal pipeline by maintaining execution roadmaps, aligning priorities, and driving timely internal decision-making.
  • Coordinate cross-functional diligence, including reviewing product features, identifying key risks and mitigants, and aligning investment/ALM considerations in partnership with investment teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance, economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Actuarial background (e.g., FSA/FIA/ASA or equivalent) or demonstrably similar quantitative finance skill set.
  • 7+ years of experience in the life insurance or reinsurance industry, or investment banking experience with significant exposure to financial services or insurance.
  • Proven expertise in transaction structuring and execution, including contract/treaty negotiation, diligence, and operationalization; familiarity with asset-intensive reinsurance or funding agreement products preferred.
  • Strong understanding of capital and accounting considerations (e.g., Solvency II, ICS, GAAP/IFRS17), and awareness of international solvency frameworks and cross-border regulatory developments.
  • Ability to build trusted client relationships and influence stakeholders across cultures and time zones; strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, flexible, and creative environment, with high ownership, sound judgment, and attention to detail.
  • Fluency in English required; Japanese, Cantonese, and/or Mandarin is a plus depending on coverage needs.
  • Willingness to travel within Asia and to Bermuda/US as required.

Why Apply

This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of strategy, transaction execution, and client advisory in Asia’s growing insurance and reinsurance market. You will collaborate with senior stakeholders across multiple geographies, contribute to strategic initiatives, and gain exposure to complex, innovative financial solutions. The position allows for significant impact on business growth and the development of a leading regional platform.
