Introduction

This is an opportunity to join a Japan-based Equity Research team within a leading global financial services environment. The role is designed for candidates who are passionate about financial markets and want to build a long-term career in equity research, progressing from a junior support function toward full analyst responsibility over time.


 About the Role

The position sits within the Equity Research function and supports sector coverage across listed companies in Japan. You will work closely with senior research professionals to produce investment insights, maintain financial models, and contribute to published research used by institutional investors and internal stakeholders.

The role is structured as a development path, with the expectation that successful candidates will progress toward initiating their own stock coverage within 1–2 years.


Responsibilities

  • Support senior analysts in gathering, organizing, and analyzing sector-specific data, including company announcements, news flow, and market developments
  • Assist in preparing equity research materials, reports, and investment presentations
  • Build, update, and maintain financial models, including earnings forecasts and valuation work
  • Participate in company management meetings, investor briefings, and industry events to gather insights and validate assumptions
  • Respond to internal and external client queries related to covered sectors and companies
  • Contribute investment ideas and thematic insights to both research and broader internal business discussions
  • Prepare for progression toward independent coverage responsibilities within a defined timeframe


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with strong academic performance
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and ability to interpret financial statements
  • Strong interest in equity markets and investment research
  • Business-level proficiency in both Japanese and English (spoken and written)
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Strong analytical and quantitative thinking skills
  • Excellent teamwork and communication abilities


Experience

  • Analyst track: 3+ years of relevant experience in financial services, research, consulting, or related fields
  • Assistant Analyst track: 0–1 year of experience; recent graduates or second-career candidates may be considered
