Index Sales – Senior Associate / Associate

Introduction:

We are supporting the search for an experienced Index Sales professional to join a leading global provider of investment decision support tools. The role is based in Tokyo and focuses on expanding the adoption and commercial usage of index-based solutions within the institutional investment community across North Asia.


 About the Role:

This is a commercially driven sales position focused on growing revenue from index-related products and solutions used by institutional investors. The successful candidate will be responsible for deepening relationships with key market participants while identifying and developing new business opportunities across Japan’s asset management ecosystem.

The role requires a strong understanding of financial markets, particularly index investing, and a proven ability to engage with sophisticated institutional clients including asset owners, asset managers, brokers, and hedge funds.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage institutional sales coverage across asset owners, asset managers, broker-dealers, and hedge fund clients
  • Drive revenue growth, renewals, and profitability targets for index-related solutions
  • Build and expand long-term client relationships while actively prospecting new accounts
  • Increase adoption of index products within the broader capital markets ecosystem
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities including data usage, licensing models, and customized investment solutions
  • Engage actively with market participants to strengthen market presence and brand positioning
  • Support regional leadership in executing strategic market development initiatives
  • Collaborate across sales teams to identify cross-selling and synergy opportunities
  • Monitor client satisfaction and ensure high retention within key institutional segments


Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in financial services or capital markets
  • Strong knowledge of financial markets, investment products, and client use cases
  • Solid understanding of active and passive investment strategies in Japan
  • Proven track record in new business development and revenue growth
  • Experience working with institutional clients (asset owners, asset managers, or similar)
  • Strong consultative sales and relationship-building skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities in Japanese (native) and English (fluent)
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional and global teams
  • University degree; professional qualifications such as CFA or FRM are advantageous
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with strong commercial acumen and ownership mentality
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, target-driven environment
