We are supporting a search for a strategic and operationally-minded People Business Partner to join the world’s premier commercial real estate services and investment firm. This is a critical, high-impact role dedicated to driving organizational excellence within the firm’s specialized operational services platform in Japan.
As a strategic advisor to business leaders and line managers, you will serve as the primary architect for people strategy within a complex, client-driven business model. Your mission is to mitigate people risk and enhance organizational effectiveness, ensuring that the firm’s operational platform remains agile and fully compliant with the evolving Japanese labor landscape.
In this capacity, you will act as the key liaison between Japan’s regional People strategy and the practical, day-to-day execution of operational goals. Reporting into the People Director, you will manage the full employee lifecycle for a diverse, site-based workforce, ensuring that leadership is equipped to handle both high-level transformation and granular operational challenges.
The role offers a sophisticated "vibe" that balances high-level strategic planning with hands-on execution. You will be expected to act as a trusted advisor , navigating a matrixed multinational environment where your ability to balance client demands with robust labor management will be the key to your success.
- Partner with business leaders to translate overarching People strategies into actionable, site-specific initiatives that support a client-centric service model.
- Influence senior stakeholders by providing data-driven recommendations on headcount, attrition trends, and employee engagement.
- Drive the annual people cycle, including high-stakes performance reviews, compensation planning, and strategic succession mapping.
- Lead the management of complex labor issues, including specialized oversight of shift work, variable working hours, and local labor law compliance.
- Resolve sensitive employee relations matters with integrity, ensuring a culture of high performance and legal safety.
- Architect and deliver training programs focused on leadership development, harassment prevention, and the fundamentals of Japanese labor standards.
- Manage critical job evaluation and promotion processes to ensure internal equity and talent retention.
- Analyze organizational data to identify trends, diagnosing potential risks before they impact the business’s operational delivery.
- Collaborate across the regional HR matrix to ensure seamless integration of PeopleSoft systems and standardized global processes.
- Experience: 8–10+ years of HR experience in Japan, specifically in HRBP or HR Generalist functions.
- Labor Expertise: Deep, hands-on knowledge of Japan Labor Law and experience managing complex employee relations.
- Language Skills: Native-level Japanese and Business-level English are required for local and regional collaboration.
- Industry Background: Prior experience in operational or site-based industries (e.g., Facilities Management, Property Management, or specialized services) is highly preferred.
- Soft Skills: Proven ability to navigate multinational matrix organizations with strong negotiation and interpersonal integrity.
