 About the Role

The VP, Corporate Development – Japan, is a key position within the corporate development team, reporting to the SVP. The role is responsible for supporting business growth through advisory, structuring, and execution of reinsurance and capital solutions. This is an opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders, both locally and internationally, and contribute to strategic initiatives that shape the organization’s presence in Japan.

Responsibilities

• Advise life insurance clients on selecting suitable reinsurance partners and structuring transactions.
• Provide guidance on reinsurance proposals, including product and solution innovation.
• Facilitate negotiation of transaction terms between clients and reinsurance carriers.
• Support the execution and ongoing administration of transactions, including any required translations.
• Expand client coverage proactively and maintain strong relationships with business counterparties in Japan.
• Collect market intelligence and contribute to strategic organizational discussions.
• Undertake any additional corporate development activities as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of experience in reinsurance, institutional securities sales/trading, or financial services related to the Japanese life insurance or insurance brokerage sector.
• Strong technical and regulatory expertise in reinsurance transactions with life insurance companies; actuarial qualification is a plus.
• Certified reinsurance broker (JIBA or equivalent), either prior to or after joining.
• Well-connected within the ecosystem of investment banks, insurers, and reinsurers in Japan.
• Native-level Japanese and fluent business English.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines.
• Strong communication skills to explain complex concepts and structures.
• Collaborative mindset and enjoyment in working with people internally and externally.
